I know a couple of people who want to make it their career to be archaeologists.  The best part of that is that they would both admit that they were influenced towards that decision by Indiana Jones.  Now there is a new chance for a couple more of us to fall into that romantic idealism.

Starting this May 15th, now available in a special edition collector’s DVD boxed set from Paramount Pictures and Lucasfilm Limited comes the first chapter in one of the greatest adventure stories of all time.  Indiana Jones And The Raiders Of The Lost Ark is ready to bring home.  Relive one of those important stories which still gets your blood pumping after all these years.  Introduce your children to a hero they will grow to love nearly as much as you used to.

For all those who do not know, this is the story of Indiana Jones, Nazis, and the Ark of the Covenant.  Indiana Jones, played by the incomparable Harrison Ford, hears that the Nazis are looking for the Ark and he sets out to find it before they do.  He must swing by Nepal and pick up an integral piece to find the ark from an old flame, Marion Ravenwood.  The Nazis track him there, but Indy escapes with Marion and the medallion.  Once they get to Egypt, Indy runs into some snakes, is almost killed many times, and finally finds the lost Ark.  What happens from there on is one of the most mystical and magical stories of our time.

The special features included in this special edition collector’s DVD boxed set are a new introduction to the film by George Lucas and Steven Spielberg, a featurette about how the Indy Trilogy fits together, a look into how the famous melting face was made, storyboards from the Well of Souls scene, selected photo galleries and a game demo for the Lego Indiana Jones Original Adventures video game.

This is a wonderful movie.  For a long time, this was my favorite movie with Indy in it.  The overwhelming evil and opportunism of the Nazis is delightfully wicked and Indy is the ultimate hardcore man of adventure.  The new special features only make this great movie that much greater.

This Lost Ark is a golden treasure which is just waiting to be rediscovered.

This DVD is available at Amazon.com.
