Trying to compare animal ownership to slavery, family violence, child abuse, etc. is non sequitor. The afore mentiontioned conditions are all forms of abuse. Owning animals is not abuse. Even farm animals can be happy, and build positive relationships with the ones farming them. How much more so for animals we raise for companions and work. These animals often build deep bonds with their keepers, and need their keepers as bad as their keepers need them. It is a symbiotic, spiritual relationship, not cruel bondage.

All species do not own themselves. No one, in fact, owns anything for we all die, and go back to whatever is.
We, at most, can be in the custody of another. Responsible ownership of animals means loving, devoted, caring, repopulating, rehabilitating, uncomparable companionship.
Responsible ownership means a certain type of guardian of the earth's species, of nature. We are the guardians, and we should be allowed to exercise guardianship in ways we believe healthy for both mankind and animal. And responsible private ownership is a healthy thing for both.

We should ensure our right to own non-humans. We should fight to bring back our right to own blacks!
We should fight to bring back our right to beat our women and children for they are inferior and are property.
"Racism", "sexism", "speciesism"....baloney. Blacks, women, non-humans.....God put them here for us. Fight for our rights!

----------------
You speciesists aren't any different from the racists in the past. Non-humans are not commodities or play things. All sentient beings OWN THEMSELVES.

I recommend each of you to go outside of your homes and hit the streets to see exactly what is going on in YOUR neighborhoods riddled with foreclosures. I recommend each of you join a task force that finds homes or shelters (No Kill) for the abandoned animals. I recommend each of you stop blogging and get out and do something. Money helps but it is very much a grassroots effort. Get real.

Our relationship with animals is one as old as the human animal. We need animals, for many reasons such as food, companionship, work, etc. It could be said we would not be here save for the animals. Therefore, we need something even stronger than a law to protect our rights to responsibly own and use animals-- we need a Constitutional amendment guaranteeing this right for all time to come.

We need an organization to say that we shall have legal recognition of the right to own the animals that we want. Elitism has just about destroyed the industry, along with charity scams that actually use animal lovers against each other. A clear set of principles and goals, established as the mission of a new organization, will go a long way towards fighting that.

I am a devoted lover of domestic and wild animals. I have been to Africa for several months at a time, worked with wild animals, felids, especially. I have worked with dedicated scientists, rehabilitators, behaviorists, exotic pet owners.
I agree with this person here who has written about Animal Rights. This person here is a responsible exotic and domestic animal owner. Animal Rights people are mistaken, even with good intent, and will help to cause extinction of wild animals, breeds, and will further separate humans from animals and nature. I find this really sad.
My hands-on contact and training with wild animals, my owning domestic animals, has kept me caring, loving, vigilant and respectful and revering of the natural world, how to love it, be with it, and at peace. And wild animals can be responsibly owned, loved, and they can be very happy too. I have seen this here in the United States and in Africa too.
I would ask the AR groups not to be so black and white, and not to take everyone's freedoms away, and to truly look at every situation and not be so judgmental.
Sincerely
Laura
