More than half of US households own a pet. Most are too busy to research the current politics behind the animal rights versus animal welfare movement.
Animal welfare, AW, movement wants to improve the conditions of animals, animal rights, AR, movement, in the long run, is against any and all animal use, even as pets.
The problem is, many animal rights groups are wolf in sheep clothing, pretending to be animal welfare. But upon close inspection it is clear they don’t do anything for the animals, most money is spent in high salaries, fancy offices and lobbying.
These sneaky groups use anything for their agenda to separate honest animal lovers from their money:
The economy is bad and more houses are in foreclosure? Well, let’s create a fund for pets affected by foreclosure, even though there is no definite proof more people are leaving pets behind when moving. There are just isolated cases of few pets left behind, which might not be a new occurrence at all, it might simply be a case of media focusing on it as the latest fashionable topic.
The real danger to animals is not the economy or homes foreclosures. The real danger is the extreme animal rights groups pushing for more and more legislation on animal ownership and use.

The current trend of banning exotic animals, certain breeds of dogs (BSL, Breed Specific Legislation) without grandfathering, or limiting the number of pets, displaces more animals ( forcing them to be abandoned, released or surrendered to shelter or animal sanctuaries) than all the foreclosures in the whole USA.
Animal owners need to be cautious making sure the money they donate to these groups will not in the end be used against them and their own rights as animal owners. Research the groups you are donating to and educate yourself about their true goals to see if they own any shelters, and how much of their donations will go towards direct hands on animal care.
It is not fair for loved and spoiled exotic animals to be forced out of their loving home to some animal rights sanctuary that forbids any loving human contact with these animals, that is an abuse in itself.
Furthermore, these AR sanctuaries are dependent on donations, it makes absolutely no sense to remove the happy exotic pet from self supporting private home and send it to the sanctuary that is not self reliant and self supportive. If the economy is so bad, then charitable donations are the first expense people remove from their list.
Animal rights bills turning currently legal well cared for pets into illegal ones, and sending them to an overcrowded ‘no human contact’ sanctuary that has no financial plan in place, is abusive and grossly irresponsible.
It is time to fight these AR groups in sheep clothing and protect our right to own a real pet wolf, or any animal of our choice, this is America.
Just Say NO! To Exotic Animal Bans, Just Say NO! To BSL and mandatory spay and neuter legislation.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackI am a devoted lover of domestic and wild animals. I have been to Africa for several months at a time, worked with wild animals, felids, especially. I have worked with dedicated scientists, rehabilitators, behaviorists, exotic pet owners.
I agree with this person here who has written about Animal Rights. This person here is a responsible exotic and domestic animal owner. Animal Rights people are mistaken, even with good intent, and will help to cause extinction of wild animals, breeds, and will further separate humans from animals and nature. I find this really sad.
My hands-on contact and training with wild animals, my owning domestic animals, has kept me caring, loving, vigilant and respectful and revering of the natural world, how to love it, be with it, and at peace. And wild animals can be responsibly owned, loved, and they can be very happy too. I have seen this here in the United States and in Africa too.
I would ask the AR groups not to be so black and white, and not to take everyone’s freedoms away, and to truly look at every situation and not be so judgmental.
Sincerely
Laura
We need an organization to say that we shall have legal recognition of the right to own the animals that we want. Elitism has just about destroyed the industry, along with charity scams that actually use animal lovers against each other. A clear set of principles and goals, established as the mission of a new organization, will go a long way towards fighting that.
Our relationship with animals is one as old as the human animal. We need animals, for many reasons such as food, companionship, work, etc. It could be said we would not be here save for the animals. Therefore, we need something even stronger than a law to protect our rights to responsibly own and use animals– we need a Constitutional amendment guaranteeing this right for all time to come.
I recommend each of you to go outside of your homes and hit the streets to see exactly what is going on in YOUR neighborhoods riddled with foreclosures. I recommend each of you join a task force that finds homes or shelters (No Kill) for the abandoned animals. I recommend each of you stop blogging and get out and do something. Money helps but it is very much a grassroots effort. Get real.
We should ensure our right to own non-humans. We should fight to bring back our right to own blacks!
We should fight to bring back our right to beat our women and children for they are inferior and are property.
“Racism”, “sexism”, “speciesism”….baloney. Blacks, women, non-humans…..God put them here for us. Fight for our rights!
—————-
You speciesists aren’t any different from the racists in the past. Non-humans are not commodities or play things. All sentient beings OWN THEMSELVES.
All species do not own themselves. No one, in fact, owns anything for we all die, and go back to whatever is.
We, at most, can be in the custody of another. Responsible ownership of animals means loving, devoted, caring, repopulating, rehabilitating, uncomparable companionship.
Responsible ownership means a certain type of guardian of the earth’s species, of nature. We are the guardians, and we should be allowed to exercise guardianship in ways we believe healthy for both mankind and animal. And responsible private ownership is a healthy thing for both.
Trying to compare animal ownership to slavery, family violence, child abuse, etc. is non sequitor. The afore mentiontioned conditions are all forms of abuse. Owning animals is not abuse. Even farm animals can be happy, and build positive relationships with the ones farming them. How much more so for animals we raise for companions and work. These animals often build deep bonds with their keepers, and need their keepers as bad as their keepers need them. It is a symbiotic, spiritual relationship, not cruel bondage.
why whoude u do some thing like that
