Ellen DeGeneres made an announcement on her talk show Friday morning that got her a standing ovation. “So I would like to say now, for the first time, I am announcing: I am getting married,” she said during the show. She and her long time girlfriend, Portia de Rossi has decided to take the plunge.
The audience went wild clapping for her while De Rossi was sitting in the crowd beaming with pride. Then DeGeneres cracked: “Thank you. I’ll tell you who the lucky guy is soon.”
She told the audience that the California Supreme Court had ruled against the banning of Gay Marriages which would go into effect in a month. The word is though that religious and social conservatives plan to have a constitutional amendment added to the ballet in November that would over rule the Supreme Court banning the gay marriages.
Ellen who is 50 made headline news with her show “Ellen†in 1997 where her character in the show came “out of the closet†making it the first to do so on prime time TV. This was decided after a month or so prior she appeared on the cover of Time Magazine with her confession that she was a lesbian.
Now Ellen has her own talk show called “The Ellen DeGeneres Showâ€. Now if you have ever seen her show you would have to agree with me that she is a very funny lady and that is my honest opinion, it isn’t just because she happens to be from my hometown, New Orleans. Watching some of her shows left me in tears because of her generosity towards people. She touched my heart on several occasions.
She does a lot of charity work when disaster hits parts of the world and I really admire her work with it. Ellen has a heart that one doesn’t always see in celebrities. You can bet when she comes out on stage that she will be wearing her tennis shoes and she loves to dance so she always starts her show out dancing with the audience. In my book she is a real entertainer. So I offer my congratulations to Ellen and Portia. I wish you many years of happiness.

A Campaign for Native GLBT Funding Justice
Target:
Organized GLBT Philanthropy
Sponsored by:
Two Spirit Press Room
Two recent national philanthropy reports have released information indicating that Gay Funders contributed $37 million in one year to GLBT organizations across the United States. Native American Two Spirit People, the poorest of all the GLBT communities, received only 4 small grants of about $2,500 each. The average grant to gay organizations nationally is $16,000 a year. Gay funders have a mission to serve all equally, but it’s time for a summit with the Two Spirit People here in our ancestral domains to help the funders achieve their mission. Two Spirit People have significant spiritual and ceremonial roles in our Native cultures, and Gay Philanthropy has a significant role to play in realizing a vision of funding-justice and social justice with our people.
