An official from the Australian Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union is being investigated by authorities over claims that he dumped asbestos on a table in front of two construction site managers after removing it from a contaminated site.

According to reports the incident took place at JA Dodd builders earlier this month. The man Shaun Reardon is said to have dumped the asbestos on a table in front of the foreman of the company and another manager at the Australian Technical College site.

Although management at the building company have not commented on the incident an official from Worksafe stated: “WorkSafe is aware of a complaint similar to the circumstances described. Inquiries are under way.”

However, the accused has stated that the claims are fabricated, and that he took small pieces of asbestos and placed them in a bag to show managers in order to draw attention to the danger of contamination and the risks posed to locals.
