When I was a teenager I remember riding with friends of mine in their cars and drag racing down the quiet city streets. If you had a nice looking car all dressed up you was targeted and looked down on if you refused to race when challenged and no teenager wants to be called chicken.

Apparently this is similar to what happened to the son of professional wrestler Hulk Hogan. Nick Hogan 17, real name Nick Bollea, was drag racing on a busy street with a 40mph speed zone. The cops clocked him at 69mph when he lost control of his car, a yellow Toyota Supra. He struck a curb and spun across two lanes of traffic and ended up rear ending a palm tree.

Bollea, who wasn’t hurt, was reported to have been drinking. His passenger, John Graziano, a former Marine who served in Iraq, will likely need medical care for the rest of his life. The consequences for John Graziano are a broken skull and other severe injuries. He now likely suffers permanent brain damage.

Nick Bollea pleaded no contest to the charges of felony reckless driving, Friday and was sentenced to 8 months in jail effective immediately with 5 years probation. Along with that comes 500 hours of community service. He will not be allowed to drink alcohol and he lost his drivers license for 3 years.

Graziano’s family was satisfied with Bollea’s verdict but they were stated as saying they wished the judge had found Bollea guilty.

Unfortunately this was not Bollea’s first time caught speeding. About 2 weeks before this accident he was caught driving 82 mph in a construction zone and was cited for it which was one more added to many other speeding tickets.

Hulk Hogan said, “Nick is not the person that he’s he’s been asked to be portrayed on TV. … Nick is a good person. He is kind, he is gentle, he’s compassionate, and he doesn’t have a bad bone in his body. And people fail to realize that Nick is still a 17-year-old child.”

In keeping with the modern day traditions of suing anyone with money Graziano’s family have filed a civil suit against Hulk Hogan and his wife Linda even though they weren’t involved in the accident.

One has to wonder what has happened to our legal system?
