This is a rather unsettling topic: A British government official is encouraging Muslim women not to wear veils. He claims that the veil is a sign of separation from the rest of English society.

He’s right, insofar that the facial coverings probably make the average citizen uncomfortable. But telling people to go against what many in their religion deem necessary is not a good way to build relations; indeed, Muslim groups are already on the record opposing the comments.

As we saw with the France riots some time ago (and with 9/11), Muslim immigrants to the West often have a strong sense of alienation. And Steve Sailer has argued convincingly that the Western experience (especially the American educational experience) tends to radicalize Muslims by putting them face-to-face with decadence.

Europe would be better advised to leave the Muslims in its midst alone and hope for the best, or stop importing them. The Muslim community, disproportionately at least, opposes rapid Westernization.
