Pacelle and Vick arrived at one of Vick's "moments with children" recently in a limousine that HSUS paid for.
Somehow I didn't have that in mind when I've sent money to HSUS.
So, no more money or time for HSUS. I've switched to ASPCA.

The Humane Society of the United States is being unfair because instead of wating all their money on their fancy buildings, they should show that they really do give everything for the animals, not in publicity.

I hate to see so many biased opinions against the HSUS. While the work of local hands-on rescue groups is undeniably important, most rescue groups are focused only on the symptoms of problems (i.e. caring for Vick's abused dogs). It's true that HSUS focuses on lobbying and such, but that is vitally important to improve the SOURCE and the OVERALL PICTURE of many of these problems (i.e. tougher penalties for dog fighters).

You may say you love animals, but honestly, if you think factory farms, rodeos, circuses, horse racing, marine aquariums, fur trapping and animal-based medical research are good things to protect, it is because you have not thoroughly researched what goes on behind the scenes in these industries.

I used to think that lobbying and animal rights were bad things, then I educated myself about the abuses that go on in these industries that treat animals as commodities.

Now that I know better, I am thankful for organizations such as the Humane Society of the United States. I wish more individuals and organizations had the courage to stand up to the kind of uninformed complaints I've read on this page so that we can REALLY make a difference for animals.

7 Things You Didn’t Know About H$U$
(The Humane Society of the United States)

1. H$U$ does not operate or have direct control over any animal shelter. Buried deep within H$U$'s website is a disclaimer noting that the group "is not affiliated with, nor is it a parent organization for, local humane societies, animal shelters, or animal care and control agencies.” When H$U$ merged with the Fund for Animals they acquired some animal sanctuaries but those are usually full when someone tries to send an animal there - unless the animal comes with a big check.

2. Since its inception, H$U$ has tried to limit the choices of American consumers, opposing dog breeding, conventional livestock and poultry farming, rodeos, circuses, horse racing, marine aquariums, fur trapping and medical research.

3. H$U$ raises enough money to help finance animal shelters in every single state, with money to spare, yet it doesn't operate a single one anywhere. Instead, H$U$ spends millions on programs that seek to economically cripple meat and dairy producers; eliminate the use of animals in biomedical research labs; phase out pet breeding, zoos, and circus animal acts; and demonize hunters as crazed lunatics. H$U$ spends $2 million each year on travel expenses alone, just keeping its multi-national agenda going.

4. While most local animal shelters are under-funded and unsung, H$U$ has accumulated $113 million in assets and built a recognizable brand by capitalizing on the confusion its very name provokes.

5. The current president of H$U$, Wayne Pacelle, is a former officer of PeTA.

6. H$U$ is currently under investigation by the Attorney General of Louisiana in regards to the disposition of Katrina funds. H$U$ has been under investigation by the FBI for their links to domestic terrorist organizations such as the Animal Liberation Front (ALF). One of their current officers, John P. Goodwin is a former member of ALF and a convicted felon for acts of terrorism related to animals.

7. H$U$ consistently jumps on the bandwagon of any animal issue to raise funds even if they are NOT directly involved. Most recently they used the Michael Vick case as a major fund raiser, even though H$U$ had nothing to do with the investigation or care of the Vick dogs.

Why would ANYone trust H$U$ with anything? Dogs disappeared from Katrina - and they took all that $$ in false pretense. They probably had NO intention of ever returning those dogs. AND - they begged for $$ for Vick's dogs - and because they weren't EVER gonna see those dogs - they then screamed they should all be killed! Check them out - instead of "lions, tigers, & bears" - it could be "liars, and cheats, and killers" OH MY! Wayne - we've looked behind the curtain!!!!
I wouldn't trust you with a wooden nickel - let alone real money OR A LIFE!!!!

The "money" to help shelters is just so that the next time they are on Oprah (I hope Oprah cops a clue and never has him on again...he just wants all her golden labs dead) Pacelle can say to donate to HSUS so they can help the shelters. THIS is the problem, these special interest groups run Washington and have so much money and power that American citizens have none. The spend all of the uninformed donation money on lobbying to meet their actual agend or removing pet owners rights one by one.

Wasn't misused funds from the Katrina disaster and Vick's dogs enough? Now HSUS is begging donations on their website from the public for home foreclosures and displaced pets on the guise of passing the funds on to shelters. Why must these funds be washed and dried in the HSUS machines. The 30 + millions of donations disappeared from Katrina in the HSUS shell game.

The CEO of HSUS, Wayne Pacelle,is on record in Animal People News magazine saying "We have no problem with the extinction of domestic animals. They are creations of human selective breeding." This is their ultimate goal through legislation and is where most of the HSUS funds go.

I hope more people become aware of HSUS and PETA, and donate the money directly to their local shelters instead. $2,000 to each shelter, is that a joke? HSUS has a 115 million dollar income, take in extra donations to benefit local shelters caring for pets who were given up because owners foreclosed, and shelters have to apply to get a measly $2,000. HSUS is a joke!
