Rosamunda: The Stiletto includes a link to that NY Post article (check out the phrase "No kidding"). Yes, there is a lot of hypocrisy in the media - which is why Americans despise journalists - but every so often a newspaper or magazine will pull off a massive investigative project (like the VA Hospital system's negligence in providing adequate treatment of mental illness) that makes you wonder how much better the world would be if the media only lived up to their opinion of themselves on a daily basis.

I enjoyed your article about the Newseum or Nauseum and thought you might be interested in reporting the following perspective reported in the NY Post and picked up by Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting (FAIR):

The Newseum is supposed to be the showpiece for journalistic integrity. To me the Newseum is a constant reminder of the hypocrisy of the Freedom Forum and Al Neuharth (its founder and my father) who make a mockery of the ideals they espouse in public. The Newseum and Freedom Forum are organizations that claim to promote truth and freedom of the press but they actually suppress the news when it does not suit their purpose.

The Stiletto's parents hail from countries where free speech is either not constitutionally protected, or is actively repressed. The Stiletto, more than most, values her freedoms and is not shy about exercising them!

As someone who works in the free speech community, I welcome Stiletto's dagger-like rants. I mean, if one really believes in a robust press, then he or she had better be prepared to be pricked (or even gored) by dagger or lance. In a world where the institutional press is too often subservient to power, it's refreshing to know that bloggers like Stiletto are speaking out. So stab away, my friend it's your birthright, use it! Fortunately, I work at a place that allows me to say these things without fear of retribution.
