Balaji - would you have been happy if the entire IT/BPO industry shifted outside Karnataka? Would farmer's suicides stop then? Where is the connection?? Will not having Gucci somehow enhance the life of poor people??? Sorry I am lost on that!

The simple economic fact is that the economic activity brings in money and all people directly/indirectly benefit.

What have we given visonaries like Narayana Murthy, Nandan Nilakeni, Azim Premji, Kiran Mazumdar and others when they have chosen to stay in Bangalore? "bureaucracy", Bad roads, polluted water, delays, ...

I am sure Sir MV would be turning in his grave!

Immigrants have only helped it grow, so dont chase them away, because of our bad planning (I am a Bangalorean for 38 years BTW)!!

It is the corrupt politicians who let Bangalore grow hapazardly without any planning for their short term gains! They have the executive powers that tie down every department/gov body in the state for their gains!!

Balaji - you are an confused socialist. Get over your guilt and you will see reason.

Its a simple service provider consumer relationship.

If bangaloreans want better services they should pay for it and if they pay for it they better have direct accountability from the service provider.

It is as simple as that.

You dont need to get into complex issues of sez, stp, dividend tax, gucci, bpo, bose .....

IT industry does not pay any taxes locally due to the STP/SEZ advantages. IT top Honchos take away tax free income (suggest dig it out and the results are not very appeasing unless you are a CEO) as dividend income. IT industry employs less of local population and hence the cause of unprecedented growth of Bangalore. The IT industry now also has shrugged social responsibilities citing shareholder income. Bangalore today is no better then Vietnam manufacturing Nike shoes which they don’t wear. The problem is larger then we think of, talk to a garment worker in the Bommanahalli to know what the true problem of Bangalore is. A folk working in the BPO sector today also talks of 60+ hours/week schedule due to depreciating dollar. Do we really need these sweat shops ? Does Bangalore deserve a Gucci/Cartier or even a Bose Showcase when our state's farmers are committing suicide? I guess the results are showing in inflation.
if you really need to make India Shine, emulate the Tata's.do not shrug social responsibility. Build your own town and turn a barren land into a city. Dont blame the government, whichever the party that is ruling.
