This is a bizarre story. The conservative site World Net Daily interviewed some terrorist leaders, who urged American voters to go Democrat. It’s a little surprising, because you’d think a few of them would try reverse psychology — a terrorist’s endorsement will hurt a candidate in the U.S.
However, I don’t think it should come as a shock that liberals share some interests with terrorists. Both bin Laden and the American left would like to see the U.S. out of the Middle East, if for different reasons.
I do question this as a political strategy from the conservative site, however. Americans tend to see the “you’re like the terrorists” allegation as petty. For example, Dick Durban apologized for his comparison of U.S. soldiers to Nazis, and Tim Johnson went back on his “Taliban wing of the Republican Party” comment.
Finally, the right shares some concerns with radical Islamists as well. Both would like to see a greater role of morality in public life.
