All girl bands are about as common as outbreaks of the Bubonic Plague in Nebraska! These ladies though have beaten the odds and done it. This DVD was recorded in Leeds, England in 2006, and is a fine sampling of the band. Waking The Witch are not well known in North America, and to the best of my knowledge this is the first album to be released this side of the pond. These are some very accomplished ladies, they can play, they can sing, and maybe most important of all, they can compose.

I’ll get my gripes out early, the audio on this DVD sucks, and I don’t think it is my speakers, there is something amiss with the audio side of the tracks. And that is a shame, these are great musicians, and they have some wonderful original material. The low end seems ok, but when the music builds, so does the fuzz factor. In fact I am surprised that the producers let this DVD out for public consumption. These ladies are very accomplished musicians, and they have been short changed by the guy on the ‘sound board’.  If he was running my sound board, he would be looking for a new job right about now.

Recording problems aside, this is an interesting album, Waking The Witch know their stuff. This is well worth investigating, think beyond the crappy sound board, and try the band. You can order your copy from MVD.
