It is sad that Ms Samootin's son was killed in an accident, but his organ's were not sold. Ms Samootin has manufactured a story to compensate for her grief. She has torn apart families with her lies.

Dear Alexandra.
I am sorry about your son.

In the Philippines, few "brain dead" donors are used because no body trust the system.
Our nephew was shot (in the crossfire of a political killing by the NPA). In Chicago, where he lived for years, they would have used his organs to save people's lives...but here we said no, because we didn't trust the system.

Paying for organs means everyone will lose trust in the medical system...

For those not familiar with Mrs. Samootin's story, see:

comments note that her website was taken down for "slanderous comments".

People can take down websites for "slanderous comments" in Australia? heh.

In the US, she could sue for lots of money if they took her son's organs without her permission.

As a doctor, I suspect she misunderstands the theory of brain death...but there needs to be a law that allows families to say no in Australia. Not all cultures accept the idea of brain death, and it was wrong for doctors to go against her wishes and belief.

My 20 year old healthy son, Andrew David Shea, was set up to have a bicycling accident. I was told that Andrew was killed instantly. Instead Andrew was taken away from the accident site alive and used as an illegal organ donor. My son died a horrible death. Family are involved. A lot of people got money. I am seeking justice for my son's murder. From Andrew's sad mother, Alexandra Samootin
