Give your wife a present: Wipe her hard drive and reload XP. The whole process will probably take 4 hours or so, depending on how old your XP installation disk is (the older it is the more security updates you need). Also make sure she has enough ram. The OEMs sold lots of XP boxes with only 256megs, which is a joke. Ram is cheap. Get at least 1 gig, and 2 gigs is better.

XP isn't slow on the right platform. Windows will bog down after a couple of years, but a full reinstall will have it running like new.

No issues here with Vista. I mainly went with Vista for the Windows Media program, which has been running happily on my media server since Vista was released.

I use Ubuntu on my desktop where ever I can, but inevitably have to log into windows when I require the use of my scanner, or software that I need to use, but just cannot run in Linux.

Vista works fine for me but then again i have a good computer. Thats the problem with most people who hate Vista, They get these new operating systems and put them on there old computrs. Well DUH of course its going to run slow. As far as yours wifes computer running slow its the computer not XP. I guarentee that. XP does not take much to run. I will agree that with Vista some of the driver issues have been anoying but Microsoft has been quick to resolve those issues. Also User Access Controls are kind of a pain but by far Vista is thebest Microsoft OS to date. Anyone who hates Vista never tried running it on a computer that ca actually handle it.
