Declan O’Rourke may not be a household name in the US yet, but it is only a matter of time. This Irish singer/songwriter has the classic ballad style, lyrical and easy to listen to. He is a storyteller at heart. We may have to wait a little while to actually see him in person in the US as he is currently on a tour of Australia, but I am sure that we are on his ‘to do’ list.

Big Bad Beautiful World is Declan’s second album, and you can clearly see the ever increasing maturity of his compositions. His first album Since Kyabram went double platinum, and Big Bad Beautiful World is sure to follow suit.

I like all of the tracks on this CD, but if I had to pick a favorite it would be the title track Big Bad Beautiful World, to me this track encapsulates exactly who Declan O’Rourke is.

On this CD Declan is ably assisted by Jason Duffy (drums), Aongus Ralston (Bass), Jack Maher (electric guitar), and Graham Henderson (celeste). On several tracks the RTE Concert Orchestra offer their strings support.

If you have never heard of this artist, here is your big chance, he has a website http://www.declanorourke.com/ where you can try out some of his music. I really like performers that have the guts to take the ‘try before you buy’ approach to marketing. In my eyes it can do nothing but improve sales.

You can order your own copy of Big Bad Beautiful World from MVD.
