Law enforcement hasn't bothered to do much about it. The situations are so extreme that the US has gotten involved and is trying to pass a bill urging Guatamala to do something about it. In fundamentalist Muslim communities around the world women and girls are murdered in what is despicably referred to as "honor" killings. Even when it is known who the murderer was they are not always prosecuted. Other of the killers are given very light sentences and very few are given lengthy sentences.
