A new choice for lazy Roman Catholics who have pledged to visit Fatima in Portugal but can’t keep their pledge for whatever reason has been opened up thanks to a pioneering man from Cascais, a small town on the outskirts of Lisbon. Carlos “Pilgrim Gil” Gil is a 42 year old man who owns his own computer company and one day felt the need to make a pilgrimage to Fatima four years ago.

Now he’s extending this ancient practice to any client who wishes to have him do it for them. For a mere 2,500 euros ($3,169), Gil will make the pilgrimage for his clients and give you a stamped certificate to prove that walked every step of the way there on your behalf. He makes the pilgrimage about twice a year. “I make the trip to Fatima once or twice a year because it elevates my spirit;” he said “Sometimes the trip is so intense that I forget I’m doing it to fulfill my client’s promises.” The round trip takes him around two weeks to complete, seven days walking there and another six days or so to walk back home. He insists that he does not make a profit off of this and that the money he charges is used purely for expenses and to compensate for the time that he has to take off of work to make the pilgrimage.

For those who are unaware, Fatima is a holy place where the Virgin Mary is said to have appeared six times to shepherd children in the hillsides back in 1917.
