Under The Same Moon (La Misma Luna)Starting off with a melodically light piano theme that fades into peaceful strings, the optimism in Carlo Siliotto’s opening track bleeds over into the second track “La Fantasia De Carlitos,” giving the listener a few pleasantly hopeful minutes. But the tranquility doesn’t last long. In the very next track, “La Cancela,” an ominous tone takes hold as the strings strain and the bass notes come out. And this is where you learn that this composer has more than one trick up his sleeve.

Italian composer Carlo Siliotto has composed music for over 70 films internationally, and even earned a Golden Globe nomination for his work on Nomad: The Warrior. Lakeshore Records is now releasing the soundtrack for his latest work, the film Under the Same Moon (La Misma Luna), a story of a mother and son trying to reconnect through obstacles and borders.

Tracks like “El Coche” reflect the darker, more suspenseful moments of the film, with slow rhythmic drums and rattling percussion, overlaid with a quiet violin. These same drums show up again later on “El Sacrificio De Enrique” with a more panicked beat and what sounds like stomping feet. These few samples of darkness are a bit of an anomaly in an otherwise serene score.

Most of the tracks offer a bit of drama, but are consistently string-driven rather than following a percussive beat. This theme gives the entire score an airily moving vibe, while also maintaining a more classically impressive feel mixed with its earthy guitar solos like the one on “En La Cama Con La Luna.”
