All convicts should have to do some sort of work to pay for their incarceration. These revolutionary criminals should be killed because they have no empathy for others.

"the difference between radicals and ordinary criminals is that ordinary bank robbers would have been upset at such a shooting, and probably run out of the bank immediately."

What in the world is an ORDINARY CRIMINAL or an ORDINARY BANK ROBBER?????

I believe a more fitting and practical punishment for these UNORDINARY criminals - (gees, that is such a stupid description) could be found. Having them in prison where taxpayers have to support them is a waste. They could have MAJOR responsibilities doing community service i.e scrubbing floors in hospitals, cleaning cages at an animal shelter...get my drift?

I find it curious that the Star Tribune article quoted above refers to Bortin as "the brother-in-law" as though he is a fine upstanding citizen and solid family member whose opinion can be relied upon.

In point of fact, Bortin was actually Soliah-Olson's partner in crime and pleaded guilty to the same murder that Soliah-Olson did. Bortin too is now out of prison, having gotten the same lenient plea bargain, although Soliah-Olson seems to have gotten the lion's share of the publicity, both good and bad, in recent years. I'm not sure that the opinion of a convicted murderer is quite as reliable as the Star Tribune would have you believe.

After most of the SLA were killed in May, 1974, Soliah-Olson seems to have provided significant support in enabling the group to rebuild. Soliah-Olson appears, among others, to have recruited both her sister, Josephine, and her friend, Mike Bortin, to join. Mike and Josephine ended up clicking and getting married.

So, yes, Bortin is Soliah-Olson's brother-in-law, but it is precisely and only because of the SLA that he happens to be her brother-in-law. Referring to Bortin's role as a brother-in-law while omitting his role as a convicted murderer seems like very biased reporting to me.
