Ms. Schlessinger used someone's unique personal situation as material to explain her personal relationship theories. If she talked about her theories independently of the Spitzer situation (which she often does) or to people who asked for her advice (which they do) those theories would be looked at for their intrinsic value. As soon as she used the Spitzer situation as an opportunity to talk about her own ideas, her response was seen for what it is: cheap and vulgar.

In reading your article again, I must say it is quite a stretch...the speculations about a comparison with the Giuliani situation... Let those talk who have actually been in a situation with a cheating spouse.
For once I agree with the liberals and the feminists. They have nailed Dr. Laura and rightfully so. And all her twisting und turning to get herself out of the mess is not going to help her. People are not stupid. She would be much better off admitting that she screwed up. What some of her supporters call 'standing by her principles', I call being stubborn, arrogant, impolite and just plain stupid.
She is giving conservatives a bad rep. Can we hide her in a closet - together with Ann Coulter?

It' not just the feminists and the liberals that are outraged over Dr. Laura' comments. I'm a conservative mother of 7.
Dr. Laura was very unprofessional, she showed a lack of class, integrity and competence. There are a lot better resources on the subject than Dr. Laura, i.e. the chapter 'to wives' in the AA book. It is understanding, supportive and spiritual and stands in stark contrast to Dr. Laura's crudeness, primitivity and forcefulness. Definitely a lot more helpful. If Dr. Laura doesn't overhaul herself she'll have no future.

Phenomenal. You first go on to say that any number of scripts are possible and then plow on to use the scripts that defend Schlessinger's view and, apparently, yours. Just curious, Glenn, if you hold husbands equally responsible for the behavior of their cheating wives? Well? Do you?

How about the "'responsibility' mentality crowd" who believes a grown man should take responsibility for keeping his marriage vows?

Dear Mr. Sachs: I appreciate your take. The "controverial" aspects of all my comments are largely because the "victim" mentality crowd has squashed the voice of the "responsibility" mentality crowd.
    Appreciate your comments!
