In my opinion, Hill and Silda are hanging in because they are aware they would lose money and much more through a divorce. Commoners, such as myself, stand to lose much. In one day I lost $$$$, social connections and moved from a neighborhood into a trailer in NM. I married one PhD to marry another; it was a case of love or so I thought. Both of my ex-husbands are acclaimed: one (deceased at DePaul Univ)and the other is a Congressional Fellow for the Sen. from Iowa). Neither one supported the children financially in the manner in which they were raised, emotionally, spiritually or in any other supportive way I can think of. These guys were the 'cream' of the 1960's intellectual crop and they received a lot of support to be be at the top of the hill.
I had the bad luck to get a lawyer who had a conflict of interest (he was looking for a woman) and he thought I 'might' be it but after lunch decided I wasn't and then just rather dismissed my case as far as pursuing any kind of assistance or renmuneration.
It is most embarrassing, sad, tragic and the whole episode still follows me like a dog, tracking me ready to tear me down at any moment.
I think Hill and Sill..da are doin' the right thing by their man. I wish someone had told me marriage was a financial institution and had nothing to do with love.
