Though he said it a few years ago now, Steve was partially incorrect in saying that "priests minister the sacraments to us." While this would be true for reconciliation, Eucharist and Anointing of the Sick, Deacons and lay people also "minister sacraments" such as Baptism and Marriage.

I love Mother Church very much but she still insists that only men be proper acolytes who read the scriptures at mass. Most don't observe this anymore. I refer to this adaptation as a perfect example of the Sensus Fidelium (Sense of the Faithful) at work in the Church. The same sense of the faithful is at work by summoning forth our sisters in faith which is quite fitting since they are doing most of the work in the Church!

Sorry Steve, I missed your point.
While your scripture quotes are interesting for thew justification of the mandatum, they really do not have a theological foundation in regards to priestly ministry or modern Catholic practices.

Hugh, you don't know what you are talking about.

Jesus was a Jew who observed the Torah commands.
Exo 40:12 And thou shalt bring Aaron and his sons to the door of the tabernacle of the testimony, and having washed them with water,
Exo 40:13 Thou shalt put on them the holy vestments, that they may minister to me, and that the unction of them may prosper to an everlasting priesthood.

Lev 8:5 He said: This is the word that the Lord hath commanded to be done.
Lev 8:6 And immediately, he offered Aaron and his sons. And when he had washed them,
Lev 8:7 He vested the high priest with the strait linen garment, girding him with the girdle, and putting on him the violet tunick: and over it he put the ephod.

The only people who specifically get feet washed in the Old Testament are the angels that visit Abraham (Gen 18:4) and the angels that visit Lot (Gen 19:2).

It was part of the ordination to the priesthood. That's why Peter said, "wash my hands and my head as well."

Christ made the priests like unto ministering angels. They minister the sacraments to us.

You don't know jack about Scripture or liturgy, my friend.
