After the memorable defeat of Musharraf’s allies in the nationwide elections, the remanants of his regime have embarked upon a manipulation and disinformation campaign. Immediately after the results the leaders of the PML-Q (Musharraf’s party) and his mole-in-chief Tariq Aziz embarked on an overdrive to pressure the leading political group (PPP) not to join hands with the runner up party (PMLN of Nawaz Sharif) and to form government with his loyalists.
That shadowy campaign could not bear fruits as Asif Ali Zardari, the co-chairman of the PPP publically announced that he will certainly take Nawaz and the dissenting lawyers along. Yet the team of manipulators has not given up quite yet. In fact the efforts have been redoubled. A day before yesterday Musharraf during a meeting with his sycophants baffled us by hinting at the formation of a coalition government of Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) in the Punjab. What shocked me was not the chances of PPP leadership lending him ears but the fact that a President is clearly seen confessing that he is busy in post poll rigging. Is it quite becoming of a President of a federation?
Again he and his toadies are seen to have embarked on a clear disinformation campaign. Recently his interior minister claimed that there might be US and Afghan involvement in the surge in the terror attacks. This was clearly an attempt to blackmail the US. And no wonder the US CJS rushed to Pakistan with solace. Is it possible that Musharraf has some implicating evidence against the American and the British ruling parties? Or is it that they all have collectively committed things which he is threatening to reveal especially in case he is forced to quit?
Another mention of word conspiracy comes from Musharraf’s spokesman, Major General (retired) Rashed Qureshi during his talk with the crony journalist Ahmad Quraishi. Qureshi whose retirement is not mentioned in his interview carried by a section of the western press, perhaps to give impression that the Pakistani Army is supporting him, claims that there is a conspiracy going on against Musharraf. And why so? No clear answer.
In fact during his last address to the nation Musharraf also claimed that there was a conspiracy underway against him in the shape of the judicial crisis. Mr Musharraf please understand that conspiracies are hatched against legitimate rulers, which you are not. If you do not have very short memory try to recall that you were the actual conspirator for over a decade before rising to power.
In any case owing to reasons best known to the western leaders, Musharraf’s blackmail seems to work each time, especially now when he is regaining his voice already.
