Much has been made of MSNBC reporters David Schuster’s comment about Chelsea Clinton being ‘pimped out’ by mother Hillary in her bid to recapture the White House, and his subsequent and nonsensical indefinite suspension from the air waves. But he was entirely correct, what else would you call it?
Chelsea Clinton so far has been treated very well in the main stream media, much better than she deserves. But she is playing a dangerous game, and one that likely will backfire in the near future. The largely Democratic oriented press are playing down Chelsea Clinton’s avoidance of talking to reporters. When you opt to put yourself in the spotlight, of your mother tells you to do it, you should be prepared to enter into a two way flow of information. Chelsea though, is playing with a different rule book. She is out stumping for her mother, but refusing to answer even innocuous inquiries from the press. A great example of this can be found in this CNN article:
Even a fourth-grader apparently can’t get through to the press-shy Chelsea Clinton.
Scholastic News “kid reporter” Sydney Rieckhoff was in pursuit of a story as she questioned presidential candidates last month on the campaign trail in Iowa, according to The Associated Press.
Approaching Chelsea Clinton, she reportedly asked, “Do you think your dad would be a good ‘first man’ in the White House?”
But Clinton wasn’t talking. “I’m sorry, I don’t talk to the press and that applies to you, unfortunately. Even though I think you’re cute,” she said, according to the AP.
While I respect everyones right to privacy I also believe that if you are going to thrust yourself into the lime light you should be prepared to answer a few simple questions. It is only a matter of time before some of the more right wing news organizations start nit picking about Chelsea, and I can not see how the fallout can possibly help Hillary.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackWhat makes you think that reporters have any right, or the public for that matter, to be addressed by her? Since when was this not a free country? MSNBC’s rights to free speach weren’t violated or anything. They were just humiliated by the fact that not Having Clinton debate on their network may cost them millions in advertising and ratings.
Not only that, but it isn’t such a journey to believe that a person would send their child to get dirt on someone.
Also, to add to the point, Chelsae has been treated very well because she has stayed out of troble, led a good life, done all that stuff, blah blah blah. She isn’t “Attacking” anyone like the media suggests the Clintons are doing. She’s only asking politely for people to caucus or vote for her mother. She’s not forcing anyone. Get over yourself you wannabe high profile editorial spinster. Geezus.
I’m a Canadian (newly retired) and have been closely watching the Presidential Nomination race.
The most significant information I have heard so far is the fact that the media isn’t allowed to publicly question Chelsea Clinton.
That speaks volumes about Bill and Hillary Clinton. As a parent, I would be disrespectful to my own daughter if I let her “play the game” while expecting that she not be held to the same “standards” as everyone else.
Chelsea herself tolerates this and continues on.
I guess there are a lot of Americans who share the same family values of the Clintons. That would explain why the Democrat race isn’t finished already.
