Recently, the anti-Second Amendment group, The Brady campaign to Prevent gun Violence, came out with another of their “scorecards” where they rank states according to how bad or good gun laws there are — according to their anti-gun reckoning, of course. Upon its release, the MSM warmed up its anti-gun machine and began touting this “scorecard” as if it were gospel. Headlines blared how “good” a state was because it restricted guns or how “bad” it was if it ranked as a state with fewer restrictions on guns according to Brady. Of course, all this assumes straight out that this Brady organization “scorecard” is the correct view of guns, as if they are correct in their assessment. And their assessment is that guns are bad. Period.
I will feature two of those stories to show the point, here. One is from the Columbus Dispatch, Columbus, Ohio. The second is a story from the News-Times, Danbury, Connecticut. The first laments that its state ranks “low,” in scores and the other happily touts that its state is “third-best.”
The Ohio paper gives a headline with a dire warning that “Ohio scores low in gun-control study.” We find the Columbus Dispatch leads with the news that Ohio scored only “13 points out of a possible 100″ on the Brady scale. The paper laments that, “Ohio is not doing enough to protect its citizens against gun violence, according to an annual scorecard released Thursday by backers of the Brady gun-control law.”
They also quote a gun-control advocate about the supposedly disappointing score.
Toby Hoover of the Ohio Coalition Against Gun Violence said Ohio has not passed key laws on mandatory background checks on all gun purchases and bulk purchases of handguns.
To their credit they give time to the pro-gun folks, but the headline and lead paragraph certainly informs the reader where they lean. With a headline that claims the Ohio score is “low” and the front half of the story filled with the anti-gun position, we get the drift.
And, that is the better story of the two.
The next one from the News-Times doesn’t even give a single line to the other side of the issue.
With a sunny headline that proudly proclaims that, “State’s gun laws ranked third-best in nation,” the News-Times fills us in on all the good tidings of anti-Second Amendment info.
The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence ranks Connecticut in third place among states with the toughest gun laws in the nation.
But, the paper feels slighted despite Connecticut’s wonderful “rating” by noting that the Brady folks didn’t take into account their newest, gun grabbing state law.
And while the Constitution State achieved 54 points out of a possible 100, a statewide organization says the Brady scorecard fails to give Connecticut credit for having a law no other state has to confiscate guns.
“Connecticut has a unique law on its books, a law that several other states are now considering,” said Lisa Labella, co-executive director of Connecticut Against Gun Violence in Trumbull.
“The law allows police to apply for warrants to seize guns from the possession of people who pose a threat to themselves or others.”
This long piece ends with this stern warning by Kaitlin Lesnick, a spokesman for Mayor Bill Finch of Bridgeport, CT.
“According to the Brady scorecard, Connecticut is doing well, but there is room for improvement. Strengthening neighborhood policing will help to control illegal guns.”
Of course, in neither story are the words “Second Amendment” or “Constitution” to be found. As in every anti-gun story, the fact that we are talking about a Constitutional right is nowhere to be seen. It just isn’t a concern that the issue happens to be an American first principle, one upon which the entire country was built.
These two stories were not alone, of course. There were many just like it across the country as news rooms scrambled to give all the exposure to the Brady group as they could to help advance their agenda.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a Trackbackwhen is the brady campaign against gun violence going to step up to other - more destructive and serious violaence such as drunk driving and alcohol abuse. Instead of the 32 people per day as claimed we are talking about 4X that in deaths and 20X that in injuries. Apparently the carnage is not slective enough for the Brady group to address or they really don’t want to restrict their own freedoms - just everyone else’s.
It must be difficult living in terror and fear all the time that anything could upset your precious world and change it. Hence the over-riding and compulsive demand that everyone toe the line to their opinions and “truths”.
I would suggest they admonish everyone to be responsible for their own behavior first and then hold other accountable for their behavior second - and then make punishment certain for those who refuse to do either.
it is very unfortunate what happened to jim brady and ronald reagan but those that are responsible should not be punished for what one jackass does.if you take away the guns from those that obey the law which kagen is trying and brady himself has even taken back some of what he was trying to pass.point only the criminal will have and always have firearms,so why punish the law abiding citzen who hunts, goes target shooting, and has to carry a firearm for defence because of illegal firearms.further more if the secret service was on the ball reagan nor brady would have been shot.now there is a law that states that you can carry a tazer but only in your home what about the people in fear because of their neighborhood and will use the tazer to defend themselves and get away?same w/sidearms concealed point here the honest citzen gets hurt again the criminal walks.i am a strong beleiver in saftey and gun safetyand classes to properly train people with side arms, tazersand other self defense iam a member of the nra but these courses should be made up to make sure that the person w/the self defense item sidearm etc. will use it or become a victem, also at gun shows kids should not fire fully auto weapons.they have a kick that children cannot handle this includes some adults ie.an adult should also have their hands on the weapon, and for some adults that are not sure of themselves.once again donot punish the honest citzen for what the criminal is doing get off your buts and go after them, for they know they can get away with what they are doing, since are law enforcement their hands are tied.wake up you numb nut liberals.let the police do their jobs make these laws stick too the criminal, not the law abiding citzen.you make laws and think about it they only apply to law enforcement, and the honest citzen WAKE-UP ernest h.semper fidelis
i made a mistake in my note about brady and reagan about those responsible yes hinckley should have gotten more then a slap on the wrist point i was trying to make because of jackasses like him why should the, honest citzen be punished, and further tie the hands of law enforcement.because the secret service took a nap that unfortunate day.liberals keep passing laws that hurt more than help.next time you happen to have a chance to talk to your state, andor local law enforcement ask him or her about how their hands are tied.beleive it or not they want to do their job but these liberal laws keep their hands tied.ie beware what you wish for for you are only hurting yourself so keep voting for these b.s.laws and if you are quit your crying join myself and thousands of others and join the NRA,before you jump the gun read the statistics.98%of honest citzens have no gun or other self defense type weapons no problems.keep voting for these liberal laws yes i am saying it again you will only hurt the honest citzen also law enforcement.while the criminal laughs in your face and walks.you figure it out.semper fi ernest h.
