“Russia has deported a planeload of Georgians, amid a deepening diplomatic row sparked by Georgia’s recent arrest of four alleged Russian spies,” according to a BBC News report.

The International Herald Tribune offers an excellent timeline for the events leading up to the deportations.

According to a United Press International report, “Russian authorities reportedly are trying to find illegal immigrants from the former Soviet republic of Georgia through their children. Moscow police asked schools to furnish lists of students with Georgia names in their latest effort to track down the unwanted aliens, the ITAR-Tass news agency reported. One Moscow police spokesman denied making such a request but at least one school official confirmed it and said it had been complied with.”

Interesting way of controlling illegal or unwanted aliens within the borders, eh? Yet another reason to homeschool…
