Okay, class: Paste conspiracy theories here.
A couple days ago, two underseas internet cables were cut off the coast of Egypt, crashing that country’s internet service and slowing internet traffic as far off as India.
There was a storm off of Egypt, and experts were wondering if a storm, or a ship’s anchor, could have cut the cables by accident.
But today, a third undersea internet cable has been cut in the Middle East:
A third undersea cable has been cut after breaks near Egypt earlier this week disrupted internet access in parts of the Middle East and Asia, Indian-owned cable network operator FLAG Telecom said.
FLAG, a wholly-owned subsidiary of India’s number two mobile operator Reliance Communications, said in a statement on its website its FALCON cable had been reported cut 56 kilometres from Dubai on a segment between the United Arab Emirates and Oman.
Since Friday is the Muslim sabbath, the impact on businesses has been worse in India than in the Middle East. Business in India is scrambling to detour internet traffic across the Pacific cable, and that country’s slow internet will presumably improve in the next few days.
So far, no major slowdown here in the Philippines.
Presumably this is bad luck, three accidents in three days.
Yet is it? It will be interesting to find out from repair crews the cause of the cable damage.
In the meanwhile,as they say in textlanguage: IMWTK“>IMWTK ( inquiring minds want to know)….

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackWhen you think about the corporate and governmental disasters that would result from a major internet stoppage, it’s not at all reasonable to assume it could be a terrorist target. As we spend billions of dollars protecting airports, do we think they are so unimaginative as to stick with the same 9/11 game plan?
They’re obviously smarter than that, and I hope we have someone out there who can match wits and anticipate rather than react to their next move. Al Queda behind the cable breakage wouldn’t surprise me at all.
The Internet is a great technology, if one line is cut, traffic can just be re-directed. In this case through the United States. I wonder will this “spy satellite” be falling in the zone affected by these “cable cuts”.. and if so, what the hell is on that thing that is worth the billions of affected business from India to Egypt.
Terry. Why would Al Qaeda sever their own internet cables? And you still seem to be under the impression that Al Qaeda was in charge for 9/11. How about you stop worshipping propaganda and do your own research?
Al Qaeda?
Who are Al Qaeda?
How do we know it was Al Qaeda?
It seems people today have started to stereotype all terrorist as Al Qaeda opperatives…
They arent the only ones who dont like the world as it is you know
