The Associated Press is reporting that Barack Obama has received 55 percent of the vote in South Carolina versus 26 percent for Hillary Clinton. John Edwards has received 18 percent of the votes from precincts reporting.
Mr. Obama is currently making his victory speech.
Ninety-five percent of the over 2200 precincts are reporting. Almost immediately after polls closed, the press declared Barack Obama the winner of the South Carolina primary.
Certainly, voter turnout in the African-American community has helped Mr. Obama win the Palmetto state. However, negative campaigning by “Billary,” the name the press have given to the campaign team of Bill and Hillary Clinton, has likely contributed to Mr. Obama’s win by hurting the Clinton campaign in the long run.
Numbers continue to come in but Mr. Obama will likely carry the state and the delegates that come with the win.
A South Carolina win for Mr. Obama certainly puts him over the top, gives him additional fundraising power and makes him a serious contender for the nomination of the Democratic Party.
John Edwards will need to seriously rethink his candidacy. Third place finishes make fundraising much more difficult. It is likely he will soon withdraw and throw his weight behind Clinton or Obama.

WOW- all I have to say!
Here is an excerpt: “Since we are today nearing the closing of the voting polls in the Democratic Primary of South Carolina, it would be interesting to lightly discuss the racial elements that have been brought to the publics attention by the Media, ever since Obama’s bid for the White House has taken the lead in all political discussions. One of the most important aspects of this year’s campaign has been the continuous advocacy of the claim that it has always been the Democratic Party who has been at the forefront in the fight for diversity (which ironically negates true racial integration) and racial tolerance. Although most African Americans have historically proven themselves to be distrustful of all politicians, no matter their ideological inclination, they have also overwhelmingly voted for Democrats. Ever since the Democratic Party’s convenient realignment in favor of the Civil Rights Movement during the 1960’s, a factor which directly caused the other famous realignment in Party Politics, in which many conservatives herded towards the Republican Party in the 1970’s and 1980’s, Democrats have coroneted themselves as the Party of equality and racial harmony. But their history is not as pristine as many of their advocates preach to the public. What is the historical background of Barack Obama’s Party, when it comes to ideas of racial harmony?
Most people are not well versed regarding the facts surrounding the immense split in the Democratic Party which was directly responsible for the founding of the Republican Party. It all began with the (1854) Kansas-Nebraska Act, which intended to spread the institution of Slavery into Kansas, and in consequence to any new State that intended to join the Union. This Act…” Find the rest of the article at http://savagepolitics.com/
So why is it when Latinos voted solidly for Clinton the press and Obama implied that it was racist? Why is it that when white women voted for Clinton in NH the press and Obama shouted “Tom Bradley”? I ask because blacks voting along racial lines does not seem to be so bad, according to the media and Obama…
Top 3 things we learned in South Carolina last week…
Now that Barak Obama has beaten Bill and Hill like Frederick Douglas beat overseers, let’s reflect on what we have learned in South Carolina:
1. Bill Clinton is actually not Black. In fact, he is a cocky, Southern white boy who will gladly seduce votes from racists the way he seduced the Black middle class for so many years. Is it safe to say that Clinton has officially gotten his Martha’s Vinyard pass revoked now that he has finally revealed the C.R.A.C.K.E.R. he’s been hiding behind that trademark country-dumb grin? Here’s what many of us have always known about Bill Clampett: he was the president to oversee the biggest prison boom in world history, the displacement of millions of jobs due to NAFTA, and the fabrication of the mythical welfare queen monster of the 90s.
2. Bob Johnson is actually not gangster for selling B.E.T. to MTV for a billion dollars. Bob Johnson is, in fact, the dirty uncle-est of Toms, a billionaire suit and tieCOON who is the Frank Lucas of the entertainment world. Not only did Bob Johnson turn B.E.T. into cultural crack by slanging stereotypes and murdering any reflection on real issues, but he created the psychosocial nuclear bomb that B.E.T. has become and sold it to one of the axis of evil telecom companies (Viacom) that would gladly dismantle it and sell the radioactive bits and pieces back to us for a small fee. Okay, that might be a slight exaggeration, but you have to admit going from Teen Summit to Hot Ghetto Mess is as foul as B.J.’s reference to Obama’s “doing something in the neighborhood” and “coming to dinner”. B.J. needs to shut up and bust up that billion for schools, housing, and healthcare for Black folks.
3. We need a new party. Let’s face it, Barack Obama might due for one of Paul Mooney’s famous Nigga Wake Up Calls. I don’t know the brother well enough to say for sure, but he may need a cigarette or two after campaigning in the south. If he is clear about U.S. history, then he knows that America was built on White Supremacy, and that he represents the next major challenge to that foundational ideology of this country. He is a brave soul whom I cherish just for his existence. But if he believes white America has transcended race, some drunk LSU football fans might help him get clear on that. Actually, that clip of the LSU fans is a good example of why we need a third party.
In that clip, you can see the Southern White Democrat–the one explaining how generational poverty is bad for Black folks, and that’s why the projects should be torn down… and the Southern white Republican–the one who says “we don’t want no more ni**ers in New Orleans,” and that’s why the projects should be torn down… So basically we Black folks in the south are caught between a noose and a knife in the back. Or, putting analogies aside, we Black folks in the south are caught between a Bush and a Clinton.
So what’s a southern brother to do with his vote? Well, if Barak’s Democratic nomination bid happens to get stymied by more Clinton race baiting or by the fairytale of the Democrats being the party of Black people’s interests finally ending, then Barak should go independent and take the millions of people of all races who support him in a different direction. And here is the main thing I learned in South Carolina: Barak Obama could do something even bigger than becomin president, he could be the first American since the Civil Rights era to successfully transform the structure and substance of American politics.
But then again I guess the Republicans would use the demise of the Democrats, their pet opposition, to take another 8 years of our time, money, and freedom. I don’t know, what do you think?
