People writing letters to the editors are trying to influence public opinion. You could expect them to have the same message published in as many places as possible. In our newly launched letters to the editor site publishaletter.com we routinely get multiple submissions of the same same letter to various newspapers and magazines across the world, even though the site has a strict "no mass mailing policy".The multiple submissions are rejected. The solution however, is not to make the submission process more difficult. Rather, it should be made more convenient so that more letters (genuine ones) are submitted and all viewpoints have equal opportunity to come through.
