Petfinder.com is a great way to find shelters and rescues near you. You can also search for specific breeds. Rescue dogs usually are fully vetted and spayed/neutered before they come to you. This is a tremendous bargain for an adoption fee. Most dogs are temperment tested, great if you are looking for a family pet. Puppies are overrated. If you get a little older dog, they come housebroken and past the chewing/nipping stages. Some dogs are even obedience trained, another plus! Good rescues like good breeders stand behind their dogs for life.</description>
