But taking the point more broadly that it's not that common these days and not the first thing a young man would think of a mother doing, you've still missed the intention of such a taunt. There is obviously a certain exaggeration present. It's meant to evoke an extreme and old-fashioned version of a woman's place. The protesters want a reaction and attention as much as anything else. That’s such a bizarre statement that no man under 40 would have seen their mother iron their shirt!
