Femi Peters To Contest Banjul Mayoral Elections!!Master Danso nominated as UDP Candidate for KMC

The UDP led Alliance is set to contest the January Local Government Elections. At a nomination exercise today, the party named Femi Peters as its Mayoral candidate in Banjul, while career educationist Master Danso has been nominated as the UDP flag bearer in the Kanifing Municipality. Their nomination comes amid election fever in the impoverished West African country.

The UDP led Alliance has vowed to sweep the polls if conducted in a free and fair political climate. Both Femi Peters and Master Danso are optimistic of winning the Mayoral seat come election day.

Mr. Peters is a career politician. He contested Parliamentary elections in the First Republic under the ticket of the opposition Gambia People’s Party GPP. Peters has a strong support base in Banjul. He was Assan Musa Camara’s right hand.

During a recent interview with the Freedom Newspaper Peters accuses the Jammeh Government of undermining the constitution. He faulted the recently passed Local Government Act, which according to Peters was an affront to democracy and the rule of law.

Mr. Peters is going to contest against the former Banjul Mayor Samba Faal. Faal’s nomination was okayed by the APRC this past week. There were other APRC big wigs vying for the position, but were dropped by the selection Committee. Faal was officially nominated.

Meanwhile, the UDP’S Ousman Rambo Jatta has been duly dominated to represent the UDP in Bakau in the upcoming elections. Jatta’s nomination was endorsed by the UDP led Alliance.
