I am a 57 yr old male who has had type 2 diabetes now for 10yrs,I also have PAD in both legs of which, the left has been attempted to have been revacularized, unsuccessfully, leaving me with only colatteral flow in both.I also have diabetic neurapathy in both feet as well that keeps me in constant pain 24/7.I have been on 80 mg oxicontin for years now,the only thing that works at all, and am on 4 a day.The trouble is,I do not get the relief I once did? I know my tolerance has increased.I take no breakthrough meds and do not get"high" from the med.I want to be able to live what is left of my life in less pain! I don't know what to do?! I am tired of doctors who think that getting high is the reason for looking for a combination that works to do that(improve life).I don't think I want to take fentanyl. Is there some combination that would help me?I'm not a cantidate for more surgery on the left leg which leaves me also a good cantidate for amputation on the left as well.IF this weren't enough,I also have DDD from S1 to L3 which lets me stand for about 5-10 min.I have had diabetic ulcers on the left leg,one of which is current on the left great toe(being treated)PLease tell me what I can do to get some relief and quality of life again before things deteriote worse? thanks

The dilemma of shall we treat pain or shouldn't we has been a on going problem among health professionals for a long time. I personally suffer a chronic pain condition that has some what changed my out look on the use of opiate pain relievers. The quality of life can be much enhance for the ones that suffer needlessly with the use of long acting pain relievers and should NOT be with held or discurage as the increase in the quality of life far out ways the passable problems in the relative small possable of those that develop problems due to opiate use.
