I am writing to take a stand on making ENGLISH our National Language. I will focus on our Social Service system including Non-Profit organizations. We need to stop spending so much money on providing forms, application's, and translators for Non-English speakers. I am a recent graduate with a Master’s degree in Social Work and I am unable to find work because I do not speak Spanish. I am becoming sincerely resentful of being told (at interviews or within job descriptions) that I may not be the first choice candidate because of the high need for a Bilingual Spanish speaker. Yes, I live in the middle of an agricultural community but I don't understand why I should have to learn Spanish in my (English speaking) Country in order to qualify for employment. I went back to school (as an older student) in order to better my life. I chose a career path that I love. Helping and educating others, less fortunate, to take responsibility is my Calling. But now I am out in the REAL world of social services and shocked that we "Americans” enable Non-English speakers to this extent and the detriment of others. I spent a lot of time (6 years) and money to get a Masters Degree that has proven useless for me. Now I have a large student loan debt and a Title IV-E Stipend that I am willing and anxious to pay off. However, I cannot qualify for employment in my field. If I have to default on my loans it will not be because I don't want to repay. It will be the fault of my Government Representatives who refuse to take a Stand on an important issue. An issue that will help people like myself actually benefit from a higher education. We need to stop enabling and start encouraging immigrants to learn English. I do not know of any other Country that would go into Financial debt (providing forms etc) to help Foreign speakers have access to "FREE" services. If I have to pay for and learn a foreign language to find employment, I will take my skills to another Country and learn their Language. This makes more sense to me and I would expect to learn the County’s language to obtain employment. Furthermore, the advantage of a move would provide better health care services for me and my family. I’ve asked this Administration, and my Representatives to take a closer look at the Hardship and Financial Debt being perpetrated on this Country by not declaring ENGLISH as its National Language to be used in all (Federal, State, County, and City Government business matters and social services.

Ron Paul's ideas are unrealistic and unworkable, since many of the services he wants to withdraw are mandated to be provided by several court rulings, inlcuding by the Supreme Court. For instance, the children of illegal immigrants - even those who are themselves illegally in the US - must be educated in our schools at taxpayer expense says the Supreme Court. But keep chugging that Kool-Aid ...

PS The Stiletto does concede your point about the possiblity of another Haliburton-type taxpayer transfer of wealth.

Does anyone else think this 'border fence' idea is just another swindle to help some politically-connected security company (e.g. KBR, Blackwater, etc)? Do they actually think that a surface level fence will keep people and contraband out of the U.S.? The drug enforcement people have already found numerous tunnels under the border, some miles long, some big enough to fit a small train. And they estimate that less than 10% of these tunnels have been discovered. Then there are the water routes... So the fence won't work, will cost billions more in taxpayer dollars that could be employing border guards or installing detection equipment. And as Ron Paul has stated: "The fence is offensive," likening it aesthetically to the iron curtain. His approach will do much more to preserve the character of our nation--remove the incentives (free health care, education, birthright citizenship, welfare payments) that drive people to come here for crappy low-paying jobs in the first place. Those jobs should pay more and go to the American unemployed.
