<description>Congratulations to Mr. Lombardo on his perspective given in his book.
I am a practicing Zartushti (Zoroastrian) and I was glad to see a recognition of my religion as being the root of the other great religions in the world.
Persian (Iranian) prophet Zarathushtra was known by the name Zoroaster by ancient Greek philosophers who studied his teachings. He was a poet-priet in the ancient Iranian religion known as Mazdayasni (God worshipping)religion. During his time there was a lot of anarchy and tyranny and evil and in response to that God sent Zarathushtra as a prophet to whom God revealed the keys to peace and happiness.
Accordingly, Prophet Zarathushtra (Zoroaster) taught his followers about the eternal existence of good and evil in the material world. Evil is considered as the absence of good, but does not have an independent existence. Prophet Zarathushtra's teachings are contained primarily in the five sacred songs callied Gathas, which are part of the Zarathushti (Zoroastrian) scriptures called Avesta. The Yasna prayers which contain the Gathas have been memorized by priests from ancient times and they are recited daily in the temples. Because of this oral tradition, the teachings of Prophet Zarathushtra were not lost, in spite of the burning of books, first by Alexander the Accursed and later by Arab, Turk, Afghan and Mongol invaders who brought the religion of Islam to Persia and mostly forced people to convert through killings, robbing property, humiliation and discrimination.
Prophet Zarathushtra taught about one God (Ahuramazda or Wise Lord) as a friend of mankind, and mankind as a junior partner with God in the goal of defeating and removing all evil from the material world by the end of time when everything will be made perfect. He told his followers to listen and understand his teachings and also listen to wise elders, but in the end each individual must decide what is right and follow the right path. He preached equality of all men and women, kindness and care of animals, land and other natural resources.
Zarthushtis (Zoroastrians) have a consecrated fire burning continuously in their temples in Iran, India, Pakistan and overseas. Fire is a sacred symbol, similar to the cross for Christians, the Black Stone building in Mecca for Muslims, etc. However, when the Muslims conquered the Persian empire they wanted to make the ancient religion look inferior so they called Zarthushtis as fire-worshippers, as if they worshipped fire in place of God.
The religion founded by Prophet Zarathushtra (Zoroaster) is known as Mazdayasni Zarthushti religion, which means the God-worshipping religion according to the teachings of Zarathushtra.
Further information about the Zarthushti religion is available on www.avesta.org website.
