I may not own a business or send mail that often so I don't have a clue before on post office fees. Hearing all this make me feel sorry for those who are affected with this. It's not fair.

By the way, I found a site in connection with post office, simply go to Post Office Box

Thanks for the articulate post about this development. As a businessperson, my objections probably sound less 'valid', but they are similar. This decision discriminates against small stores, and works to the advantage of large ones, thus furthering the divide between corporate monoliths who get unfair price-advantages and small businesses who try to supply individuals with the reading materials they want and need. (Those discounts are called "economies of scale" & supposedly are a 'fair' & reasonable byproduct of capitalism in action... whereas in fact, small businesses like mine & chains stores don't even play in the same ballpark, much less on the same field.)

I tried to call the ABA (American Bookseller's Assn) and other trade groups I felt should show an interest, when the PO quietly took this action on the side this past summer. Nothing. The fact that it more or less eliminates my ability to export apparently doesn't register with the powers that be. It should, because as things stand, it means the playing field continues to narrow.

The Post Office is now a 'private' entity (and has been for some time). Nevertheless, their corporate charter is unusual, in that it mandates the PO serve the widest array of people & locales. I expect that doesn't "count" outside conUS, & that's how the Postmaster General rationalized this decision; the PO is grossly overextended in terms of payroll, & any price-saving measure is always desirable, from their point of view. But someone should intervene. They are not competing with UPS and FedEx--and their prices should not reflect that.
