Sad to say I was one of those girls, and from first hand experiance, I can tell this writer that she is completely wrong. I was 12 when I became sexually active and I became pregnant at the age of 15. My boyfriend was the same age as me, not a disgusting sexual predator. Some girls feel they are older tham they are, and are going to have sex, if they are going to have sex they should be provided with birth control and information. This idea that if we don't give them birth control and we dont tell them about sex, just live by abstinence is the only way, is why the teenage pregnancy is as high as it is in the first place. We need to give our children every reason to wait to have sex, but we also need to give them every protection from pregnancy and STD's that we can, just in case.

"The article quotes statistics of the number of middle school pregnancies, but don’t mention if anyone was prosecuted for statuatory rape for making such young girls pregnant."

It did not occur to you that it might be young men of their peer age-group?

"If it is the boys in the middle school, then I advise you to start giving them lectures about responsible manhood."

Oh, it did, but wait a minute...

"These girls are not “sexually active”. They are being pressured into sex mainly because no one protects them from immature bad decisions."

So, just so I understand, girls need to be protected from their immaturity and bad choices, yet boys need to be lectured on "responsible manhood"? This seems a little unfair, but I'll let it slide as part of your belief that the "fathers" are older teens guilty of statutory rape.

I disagree with the rest of your statements to the effect of whether 11,12, 13, and 14 year old girls want to have sex or are simply being pressured into it ( you don't know which it is ), and I think it's naive to draw a distinction between them and girls 15 or over. However, if parents are not going to do a better job in ensuring their kids are not engaging in sexual activities, someone should be there to play damage control.
