Chris, I have to side with you on this one. Genocide is indescribable and unforgivable. But the timing on this resolution is insane. We need friends right now (and strategically placed military bases), especially the Turks, since they could vastly complicate the Iraqi war. They don't have to like us, but it would be most helpful if we did not actively antagonize them at this point. Speaking out now would be like waving a written statement against organized crime in the face of a Mafia boss who is holding a gun to your head. We've waited 90 years. Another year or two won't hurt. A resolution now would just cause more people to die.

Its funny!
A nation founded on genocide exterminating millions of indigenous Indians and have gone to war to numerous nations (Vietnam, chili, Nicaragua, cuba, Iraq, Iran, Lebanon, Korea, Japan, Haiti.. just a few to mention) and killed more than 32 million people all over the world is passing a resolution naming the killings of 300,000 as genocide!! Its the first to use biological and nuclear weapons against the mankind. Its Iraq score is pretty small somewhere around 750,000. Hey America, catch it up quick...time is running out! Isn't it shameful if this great nation on earth couldn't make at least a million with all these weapons in the 21st century?

For one thing, it was the Ottoman Empire that was responsible so it doesn't make any sense. I don't recall this every being a pressing matter on the Democratic agenda until just this week.

I don't recall Nancy Pelosi EVER mentioning an Armenian genocide resolution on the campaign trail.

If we're gonna start throwing resolutions around, how about a condemnation of the genocide going on right now in Chechnya at the hands the Russian military.

Let's have a resolution condemning Japan for it's atrocities during the war. There are plenty to choose from, so why this one now?

What kind of logic are you using? Since when did genocide denial become a perk of American friendship? If Turkey is such a "great friend" as you say then why wouldnt they let the US use the Incrilik airbase for combat missions? Why would they start incursions into the Kurdish region of Iraw when that is the only stable region in the whole country? Why are we so eager to please a country that makes it a crime to use the word genocide? A country that has over 90% of its population holding unfavorable views of American?

The Democrats are trying to restore America's credibility, almost every country in the world recognizes and speaks openly about the Armenian Genocide except for the US, England, and Turkey. If Germany demanded we tear down the Holocasue memorial because they found it "offensive" and it was a "sensitive" topic in their country would we do it? No, becasue genocide is genocide and it should never be shrouded in bureaucratic doubletalk just because it may piss someone off.
