Richardson is on target. Language development in early childhood has been found to correlate strongly with academic success later in a child’s life. Children from poorer families typically do not receive quality early childhood education and the size of their vocabularies prior to entering Kindergarten is often less than that of children from middle class households, and they don't necessarily catch up later in the school. We are losing so much human potential (and economic growth) by not investing in the early education.
