I am a recent followed of European Soccer. Initially, I watched Seria A Italian soccer; however, once I began to view Premier League games I quickly realized how borring Italian soccer is relative to the quick paced Premier League. I believe that the English Championship League could wipe out more than half of the Seria A teams, which pretty much indicates that Italian soccer, as it is played today, is not longer relavent. If the Italian league does not change its soccer style I fear they will be relegated to the ranks equal to Greece or Turkey. This will of course result in an exodus of Italian soccer players to other leagues in Western Europe. Personanlly, I think the Italian leaque deserves this consequence. DARWINISM, you know.

It is interesting to read a US prospective of the decline of Italian soccer. As a UK soccer fan I have noticed the game in Italy being in slow decline for many years but I believe it is no great loss to the sport.

The Italian style of football is not good on the eye with its emphasis on defense, playing counter attack soccer and believing that winning is more important than entertaining.

It is no wonder fans are moving away from the game in droves and there is little interest in European competitions - you only have to look at the small crowds they attract for these games.

Not wanting to sound partisan, I will be glad when there are less teams from Italy in European competition and the quicker the decline the better.
