Sometimes the system works. Imagine, if you will, that you are retired, you have a pension that automatically enters your bank account, a rent fee that automatically comes out of your account, and something bad happens to you. Perhaps you trip and fall and break something. Perhaps you get up on the wrong side of the bed and hurt yourself because there is a wall there.
   How long would it take for your friends to figure out there was something wrong? For Frank Riedl, the answer was 5 years…give or take.
    This is actually a pretty sad story. He must have had no friends or family who missed him. We can only assume he did his own grocery shopping and had no vehicle. How else would you explain nobody noticing a death for that long?
    Too often we talk about the people who are societies’ “invisible people”. Apparently, in Austria, that includes the elderly.
