Dance is not my favourite genre, but some is better than others. Tokyo Calling 2 is an interesting compilation of works. Many artists that live in the dance genre rely heavily on sampling and remixing. Personally I find this style unsatisfying, I much prefer original work. It was with great trepidation that I plonked this in my CD player.

I was pleasantly surprised by this release. I found it reminiscent of Sade, very easy going and delightfully melodic, exactly what I wasn’t expecting. It is unusual to find originality in this kind of music but Tokyo Calling does come through, and if you are a fan of Sade you likely will want to pick this CD up.

This is the second edition of the new Tokyo Calling compilation series. On this project, the best Tokyo & NYC House artists/producers bring over 74 minutes of groove. We welcome the talents of afro-funk producer Jephte Guillaume feat. EMI Japan songstress AK re-edited by Danny Krivit, violinist Chieko Kinbara produced by San Fran super producer Kaskade, Tokyo’s hottest Latin-infused house outfit Studio Apartment featuring the legendary production duo Blaze, Vision Questa’s “Hold My Heart” remixed by Ricanstruction label master Frankie Feliciano, the #1 Billboard Hot Dance Music Club Play single “Glory of Life” by mink, remixed by Darryl James aka DFA and more.

You can get Tokyo Calling 2 from MVD.
