While I am sorry that Bettye's experience in the Church of Christ was a poor one, to broadly paint all men of the church as abusive is ignorant and narrow. There is no evidence that Mr. Winkler's father was abusive, yet Bettye says, "...the apple doesn't fall far from the tree." What an asinine assumption. By all accounts, Mr. Winkler's father is a very loving and supportive husband and extremely well respected in his church and town. Why in the world sling accusations when this family has suffered so much already?!There was only Mary Winkler's word for the abuse she suffered, unfortunately, and Matthew Winkler was not able to be questioned about it because she shot him. He is unable to defend himself.
I have attended church services in many different denominations, Church of Christ included. I am a protestant and a christian and I find the baseless speculation disappointing, offensive, and unfounded in facts.

Don't judge a person until you have walked a mile in their shoes. If you have never been emotionally, physically or verbally abused you need to study the damage this type of treatment does to someone. Especially if done over a long period of time. Until you have either personally been through it or spent a great deal of time with someone who has or you have studied it at great lengths, you really shouldn't be brazen enough to publically voice an opinion in this hearing

It seems to me of all the articles that I have read aganist Mary, it is usually authored by a man. Most men don't understand abuse the way a woman feels it. It seems to me that this is one God should deal with. She has said she wish none of this had happened. I think if we as a nation pray that this decision is put into the hands of someone who is truly objective and is lead by God. She has asked everyone to forgive her. I to grew up in the Church of Christ and I trully understand they way they feel that men are the head of all. But most do not show and live their lives that women are their equal and remember woman was made from man's rib not his foot.
I have seen and experienced the abuse of power by men that are in the Church of Christ. Not all but it doesn't take many to spoil the pie.

The scarey thing about all this is that if Dan did this. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Should those 3 little girls be forced to live under that fear? I to know that children have to be ok with both parents for they are parts of both (good & bad). So if Mary is not suitable, does that mean that the Winkler's are better? Maybe, Maybe not. This is why I think this matter needs the hand of God.
