The title of this blog comes, of course, from Al Franken’s best-selling book of the same name some years ago. Franken, an Emmy award-winning writer for Saturday Night Live, had much to say about Rush Limbaugh, and if you have read Franken’s book, Limbaugh’s latest example of poor taste in extremis comes as no surprise.

The big dust-up is over Limbaugh’s observation during his radio show that Michael J. Fox was faking it during a political ad supporting candidates who favor stem cell research. “He is exaggerating the effects of his disease,” (Parkinson’s) huffed Limbaugh. “He’s moving all around and shaking and it’s purely an act. This is really shameless of Michael J. Fox.”

Of course if Limbaugh had bothered to click Google with one of his fat stubby fingers, he would have quickly discovered that Parkinson’s disease is a motor system disorder that manifests itself through shaking and tremors as the impairment, for which there is no cure, progresses. And Fox is known to have had Parkinson’s for several years, although he only recently confirmed his condition in a series of public statements.

One wonders why Limbaugh failed to accuse Christopher Reeve of deceit as well, since Reeve also supported stem cell research. After all, lying motionless in bed or in a wheelchair is easier to fake than “moving and shaking” as Limbaugh observed. Stem cell research, although in its infancy, holds some promise for people stricken with neurological disease and injuries such as Fox and Reeve suffered.

Given the facts that Limbaugh managed to artfully dodge the draft because of a malevolent boil on his ass, that he stands accused of being a pill junkie who used counterfeit prescriptions to gain access to the drugs, and that many regard him as racist because of his tirades against Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb, there is little wiggle room for Limbaugh when it comes to “shameless behavior.”

To add insult to injury, Limbaugh supposedly apologized for his remarks about Fox, but then added, “Michael J. Fox is allowing his illness to be exploited and in the process is shilling for a Democratic politician.” Does one need any further proof that Limbaugh is suffering from halitosis of the mind?
