Hon’ble Sir,

I, Somnath Banerjee, belong to a pure lower middle class family age 42, a resident of Kolkata, most respectfully and humbly like to state that presently I have been working in a private organization and posted in Madhya Pradesh. I have three dependants viz. my father (87), my wife and a son, who are living in Kolkata. My father is a cardiac patient and suffering from other age related diseases and my wife is having multiple diseases. It is needless to mention that I am over burdened with tremendous monetary pressure. It has become quite impossible for me to keep pace with the recurring expenditures of maintenance, medication and education with a meager salary. At this moment I am forced to liquidate even my household ornaments to manage our livelihood. At this moment finding no other alternatives, I am approaching before your good self for a solution as otherwise within short span I will only be left with the option of committing suicide.
In this context, I like to mention that in the year 1986, my father was attacked with severe heart ailment and was advised to implant a Pace Maker, but since our financial condition was not up to the mark; my mother wrote a letter to the then honorable Prime Minister Mr. Rajiv Gandhi and to our great surprise a reply of the said letter reached us within a couple of days where honorable Prime Minister sanctioned fund for implanting the said device and thus saved our family from sinking. Till date we all at our family worship Mr. Gandhi as god.
Sir, you can easily imagine that I had to master a phenomenon amount of courage before writing this letter to you. Perhaps it is my previous experience that has given me the required strength to write such letter. In anticipation, I am earnestly requesting you to kindly consider the gravity of the problem and show me a way out.

Thanking You,

Yours faithfully

Sri Pranab Mukherjee
Hon'ble Finance Minister
Ministry of Finance
New Delhi

Respected Sir,

I put forward the following points for your kind and sympathetic consideration.

1. I retired from a Multinational Engineering Company in Calcutta in 1986.I am an undergraduate in the Engineering profession.

2. As long as I was drawing the service salary,it was sufficient for maintaining my family comprising three people.

3. I retired 23 years ago and I have no pension to speak of. I draw a frivolous amount of Rs.1760 every quarterly from LIC under its Super Annuity Scheme arranged by my employer.Messrs. Stewarts and Lloyds of India Ltd.based in Calcutta.

4. After my retirement I had received some amount as gratuity, provident fund etc. from which I invested in a Fixed Deposit and from the interest accrued thereon I could somehow maintain my family.

5. Few years later, prices of all commodities started rising .I also lost a heavy amount in the Unit Trust of India when the same went into a bad shape. Immediately after my retirement I could maintain my family expenses within Rs.2000 per month but after that it increasingly became difficult to meet ends and I started withdrawing funds from the invested money for meeting daily needs.

6.Gradually prices skyrocketed and now I am unable to support my family of two in any possible way.I am 83 and my wife in 73.It has become impossible to buy even medication that we need on a regular basis. At this age how can we go for work ? Either we have to go begging on the street or simply die of hunger!!.

7.In India, a majority of Govt. retired personnel enjoy a handsome pension, that too gets raised from time to time. But my income has remained fixed, the amount that I had started earning after my retirement 23 years ago.

8. Now I and my wife am staying at my nephew's flat in Calcutta at their mercy as I do not pay any rent.I am paying electricity, water and other miscellaneous bills though. I may be driven out any time from this house.

9.Considering the above mentioned reasons, it is my earnest request for a provision of old age pension so that we can live the remaining days of our lives without having to worry about the struggle of facing another day without money.

Thanking you Sir

With due regards

Yours sincerely,

Sir,
I have made a mistake in my request on Tax exemption on withdrawal of NSS compulsary deposit scheme. The suggestion is for 2009-2010 budget to be presented in July 2009.
I am reaching 73 years of age and hence please overlook this lapse and consider the suggestion.
Kind regards

Could you please reach this to the Finance Minister's attention?
  From,A.Padmanabha 'Ramashraya' 382, 12 A Main, Sector A

Sub: Income -Tax exemption on National Savings Scheme compulsory deposits made before 1992.
Suggestion for budget 2008-2009

It is earnestly pleaded that all tax payers who have deposited in NSS compulsory deposit scheme, prior to 1992, who have since retired from service or have crossed the age of 65 years, be exempted from payment of Income Tax, on withdrawing the deposit amount. Exemption may be restricted to those who have a maximum deposit of Rs.10 lakhs on 1-4-2009.

The reasons for the suggestion are as follows;
1.Most of the beneficiaries to be covered by the scheme are the senior citizens, likely to be facing one or more of the following hardships:
•	They have to fight inflation,. They have to restructure their assets to compensate the loss on interest on NSS deposits, to balance household budgets.
•	Perhaps trying to construct/complete/renovate a house to live-in, in the wake of steeply rising construction cost. Some may even have to invest in land for a house.
•	Constrained to borrow high cost funds for their children's higher education.
•	May still have to meet children’s marriage expenses
•	With increasing age, are burdened with escalating medical bills.
•	Currently are economic burdens on their children, trying to reduce the burden as far as possible.
2. Such persons were compelled to keep their deposits for the Government use at
low interest for over 17 years.

3. The suggestion is equitable and fair since the government;
•	Had allowed voluntary disclosures to benefit those who had dodged income tax perhaps for decades, at reduced tax rates and without penalties in the year 2000.
•	Exempted Income Tax on company dividends.
•	Reduced short term capital gains on shares trading to 10%.& fully on long term capital gains from shares.
•	Capital gains on NSC scheme is exempted from tax if the deposit is retained for 6 years.
•	Has reduced the interest rates recently and these people need immediate relief to readjust their finances.
4. The suggestion is also in support of the policy proclamation of the government
for special focus on senior citizens problems.

A favourable consideration of the suggestion would be of relief to perhaps a few leftover Senior Citizens holding NSS accounts and would also avoid post offices from maintaining these old accounts. Response to this suggestion would be highly appreciated.

Mukherjirahul, You and your so-called religion can go to hell. Do you think that Hindus and Christians would want to convert to your perverted cult? No we do not! See you on the battlefield you cowards. We cannot wait to send you to the 72 ugly virgins. They are virgins for a reason-no one will have them.

Dr Mohamd Haneef is being held in detention by the Australian government which I deem is unconstitutional and illegal.
See a copy of my letter of complaint regarding this to the Commonwealth Ombudsman dated 11-7-2007 on my blog http://au.360.yahoo.com/profile-ijpxwMQ4dbXm0BMADq1lv8AYHknTV_QH and see also my website http:www.schorel-hlavka.com
Either we have the RULE OF LAW that applies or we don't, but we should not allow the Australian Government using unconstitutional laws to detain Dr M Haneef as it is now doing.
My issue is not the innocent or guilt of Dr M Haneef, but that he is entitled to constitutional rights where he is held in the Commonwealth of Australia.
I for one would urge India's Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee to pursue the release of Dr M Haneef immediately where no charges have been laid against him so far at all.
MAY JUSTICE ALWAYS PREVAIL®
