Violence crept into education yet again today — twice — with one Las Vegas teen seen with a gun on school property and three dead after an Amish one-room schoolhouse shooting.

As I’ve previously blogged, this phenomenon is significantly different from the rash of late-’90s student-on-student shootings that stemmed from bullying, lasse-faire parenting and obsession with media violence. Here, we’ve seen adults attacking students, students attacking faculty and some Columbine-style plotting. It’s a disturbing trend, and one that will be difficult to analyze and explain as one coherent phenomenon.

Previous incidents:
Montreal college shooting.
Green Bay East foiled plot.
Colorado hostage situation.
Rural Wisconsin principal shot dead.
